Read from left to right, the DRG model code gives the frame number, the length letter, the pole count and the frame material. For example, DRG-132M-4-GG describes a model with a 132 mm shaft height, M length, 4 poles (1500 rpm class) and a cast iron frame.

Parts of the code
| Part | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Frame number | 132, 160, 315 | IEC frame; shaft-axis height above the underside of the feet (mm) |
| Length letter | S, M, L | Short, medium, long core within the same frame |
| Sub-variant digit | 100L1 / 100L2, 160M1 / 160M2 | Different power step in the same frame and length |
| Number of poles | -2, -4, -6 | 3000, 1500, 1000 rpm synchronous speed class |
| K | 112M-4K | Compact model fitted into a frame one size smaller than its power would suggest |
| Material | AL / GG | Aluminium frame / cast iron frame |
Three-digit codes in small frames
In the 63, 71 and 80 frames the code is written as 632, 711, 712, 801, 802. The first two digits give the frame and the last digit the variant within that frame: DRG-711-4-AL is 0.25 kW and DRG-712-4-AL is 0.37 kW; both are in the 71 frame. That is why saying only “71 frame, 4 poles” does not fix the power step.
What the code does not tell you
The code does not state the voltage directly; in the DRG range, a 230/400 V winding is used up to 3 kW and a 400/690 V winding from 4 kW upwards. Mounting arrangement and shaft size are also read from the product record, not from the code. Compact models need care: DRG-112M-4K-AL is rated 5.5 kW, but its shaft is 28×60 mm and its shaft height 112 mm, whereas the 132S model of the same power has a 38×80 mm shaft. Same power, different connection dimensions.
Write the full code in the order
Leaving out the material suffix (AL/GG) or the letter K can result in a different model of the same power being delivered. Check the code together with its dimension record, as on the product page of the 5.5 kW compact model; all codes can be viewed by frame and power in the online motor store.
