When you want to renew a 3 kW GAMAK electric motor, DRG MOTOR's ability to offer you a sound option depends on how complete your information is. This article groups the required data into four sets and explains why each is needed: the motor's identity, electrical values, mechanical dimensions and how the machine operates. At the end there is a short list you can send in a single message.
1. Identity: type code and nameplate
The first thing needed is a readable photo of the nameplate. Copy the type code character by character rather than guessing. In the GAMAK technical catalogue, the 3 kW three-phase IE3 aluminium series lists the four-pole type as AGM3EL 100 L 4b and the two-pole type as AGM3EL 100 L 2a; in the tables, the "100 L" part of the code matches the frame column. On an older GAMAK electric motor you may see a different code structure: the company's 2022 catalogue defines another ordering code system. Either way, sending the code unchanged speeds up identification. If the nameplate shows an IE class, add that too.
2. Electrical values
Voltage pair, frequency, rated current and the nominal speed on the nameplate form the core of this group. The GAMAK catalogue gives 400 V 50 Hz as the standard for its three-phase series; since other voltages and 60 Hz are also made on request, say so clearly if your nameplate shows a different value. In the DRG MOTOR online store, models up to 3 kW are listed as 230/400 V and models of 4 kW and above as 400/690 V; any special voltage or different frequency requirement should be stated separately. On current, the DRG-100L2-4 draws 6.02 A at 400 V and the DRG-100L-2 5.71 A. The motor current chart helps you compare the old motor's current with these values. Whether the panel, contactor and protection settings suit the new motor must be decided by qualified technical personnel.
3. Mechanical dimensions
At 3 kW there is an interesting situation: the GAMAK catalogue shows both the two- and four-pole types in a 100L frame with a 28×60 mm shaft. In the DRG range, too, the DRG-100L-2 and DRG-100L2-4 share the same 100L frame and 28×60 mm shaft. Yet their nominal speeds are 2895 and 1450 rpm; the same frame does not mean the machine turns at the same speed. Conversely, there are compact types with a smaller frame at the same power: the cast-iron DRG-90L-2K delivers 3 kW in a 90L frame with a 24×50 mm shaft. In short, neither the same kW nor the same frame shows suitability by itself; shaft diameter and length, key width, foot hole spacing, shaft height and any flange dimensions must be compared and checked.
4. Machine and duty
What the motor drives affects the choice directly. A pump, fan, conveyor or crusher calls for different starting loads; state whether it is connected by coupling, belt and pulley or flanged to a gearbox. How many hours a day it runs, how many times an hour it stops and starts, whether it is fed by an inverter and whether there is a brake also matter. For the environment, add temperature, humidity and dust; DRG motors are rated IP55, class F insulation, −15…+40 °C and altitudes up to 1000 m. If the old motor stopped because of a fault, noting the cause (bearing, winding, overheating) can also shape the new choice so the problem is not repeated.
Once you have collected these four groups, you can send them with photos via WhatsApp; DRG MOTOR reviews the options against this information.
DRG models that can be assessed
DRG Motor is a manufacturer, supplier and seller of electric motors. Example options for 3 kW; suitability becomes clear after the information is compared:
- DRG-100L2-4 – aluminium, 100L, 1450 rpm, 19.8 Nm
- DRG-100L-2 – aluminium, 100L, 2895 rpm, 9.9 Nm
- DRG-90L-2K – cast-iron compact, 90L, 2895 rpm

Frequently asked questions
The type code is unreadable; is "3 kW" alone enough?
It is not. Because different frames and speeds exist at the same power, at least the nominal speed, shaft size and mounting form must also be known.
Why do you ask for the current value?
The nameplate current, together with the voltage pair and connection, shows how the motor is supplied; it is also a starting point for reviewing the protection settings in the panel. The setting decision belongs to qualified technical personnel.
Does a compact motor save space?
A smaller frame also means different shaft and foot dimensions. Depending on the connection on the machine this can be an advantage or a problem; it cannot be said without comparing dimensions.
List to send in one message
- Nameplate photo and the type code character by character
- Voltage pair, frequency, rated current, nominal speed, IE class if shown
- Mounting form; shaft diameter × length, key width
- Foot hole spacing and shaft height, or flange dimensions
- Transmission element: coupling, belt and pulley, or gearbox flange
- Machine type, daily operating hours, start-stop frequency, inverter/brake status
- Ambient conditions and, if known, the old motor's failure cause
When you pass this list to DRG MOTOR, the suitable option is identified by reviewing the motor data and the machine's operating conditions together.
