Most of a plant's drive requirement is met by three-phase induction motors. Thanks to a squirrel-cage rotor and a construction with no brushes or commutator, these motors run for many years with low maintenance. DRG Motor supplies industrial induction motors suited to the 400 V / 50 Hz grid across the 0.55-355 kW range.

Operating Principle

The rotating magnetic field produced by the stator induces current in the rotor bars, and that current turns the rotor. Because the rotor cannot quite reach the field's speed, there is a slip between them; the name "asynchronous" comes from this slip. With slip at around 2 to 4 percent under load, the motor offers a stable torque-speed characteristic.

Features That Define the Industrial Type

Industrial motors are generally built to IP55 protection, Class F insulation and an S1 continuous duty rating. A cast iron frame provides resistance to the vibration, dust and heat of a factory environment. Standard mounting types are offered as B3 foot, B5 flange and B14 face.

Speed and Power Options

Pole count sets the motor's speed: 2 poles give 3000 rpm, 4 poles 1500 rpm and 6 poles 1000 rpm. High-speed fans use 2-pole models, balanced applications 4-pole, and high-torque duties 6-pole versions. The efficiency class can range from IE2 to IE4 depending on the application.
