The cast iron IE3 electric motor combines the energy advantage of the Premium efficiency class with the mechanical durability of a cast frame, making it a motor type built for heavy industry. When frame material and efficiency class come together, you gain both long life and low running cost.
The Advantage of the Cast Iron Frame
A cast iron frame is heavier than aluminium but markedly more durable. It damps vibration, resists mechanical shock and dissipates heat effectively from its surface. These qualities extend bearing and winding life in vibration-prone, continuously loaded applications such as crushers and conveyors.
What IE3 Premium Efficiency Means
Under IEC 60034-30-1, IE3 denotes the Premium efficiency class. IE3 motors generate less waste heat at the same load; in continuously running applications this difference turns into meaningful energy savings over the years. Paired with a cast iron frame, the result is both efficient and durable.
Technical Specifications
Cast iron IE3 motors are generally built with IP55 protection, Class F insulation and S1 continuous duty. The mounting can be foot-mounted B3, flange-mounted B5 or face-mounted B14 depending on the application, with 2-, 4- and 6-pole speeds on a 400 V / 50 Hz supply.
Selecting the Right Cast Iron Motor
DRG Motor supplies cast iron IE3 motors across a wide range from 0.55 kW to 355 kW. To specify the power, speed and mounting that fit your application's torque-speed profile and ambient conditions, talk with our technical team.
