1. What is IE4?
-
IE: Abbreviation for International Efficiency classification.
-
Efficiency classes range from IE1 → IE4.
-
IE4 = “Super Premium Efficiency”, meaning motors with extremely high efficiency.
-
Defined by the IEC 60034-30 standard.
2. Features of IE4 Motors
-
High energy savings → Consume 3–5% less electricity than IE3 and 8–10% less than IE2.
-
Reduced losses → Improved stator and rotor design, lower magnetic losses.
-
Lower heating → Longer lifespan, extended bearing and winding life.
-
Quiet and vibration-free operation → Preferred in sensitive applications.
-
Compatible with frequency inverters (VFDs) → Provides very high savings in variable-speed operations.
3. Application Areas
IE4 motors are particularly preferred in continuous operations and applications with high energy consumption, such as:
-
Pump and fan systems
-
Compressors
-
Conveyors
-
Cooling units
-
Heavy industry facilities (cement, iron-steel, petrochemical)
-
Mining machinery
4. Advantage – Cost Balance
-
Initial investment cost is 20–30% higher compared to IE3 motors.
-
However, thanks to energy savings, they usually pay for themselves within 1–2 years.
-
Especially in motors 75 kW and above, savings become much more significant.
