On an 11 kW, 1500 rpm flanged motor you will meet two different B5 flanges. The standard DRG-160M-4 is in a 160M frame with a P 350 / M 300 / N 250 mm flange and a 42 × 110 mm shaft. The compact DRG-132M-4K delivers the same power one frame size down, in 132M; its flange is P 300 / M 265 / N 230 mm and its shaft 38 × 80 mm. The electrical data are identical on both (20.4 A at 400 V, 1465 rpm, 71.7 Nm); only the mounting dimensions change.
The flange belongs to the frame number, not to the power. The catalogue gives each IEC frame a single B5 size; the frame you fit 11 kW into automatically selects the flange as well. That is why an order for an "11 kW flanged motor" is not complete with the power alone; the frame must be stated too. The 2-pole and 6-pole 11 kW models are also 160 frames; the compact option exists only in 4 poles.
Once the dimensions below have shown which frame suits your machine, you can open both models side by side on our Buy Electric Motors Online page.

When reading the table, note how large the differences are. The spigot diameter N differs by 20 mm, the bolt circle M by 35 mm and the flange outer diameter P by 50 mm; the holes also grow from 14.5 mm to 18.5 mm. Differences of this size do not allow one flange to be "forced" into the other's recess. On the shaft side, going from 38 mm to 42 mm and from 80 mm to 110 mm means the coupling or pump hub has to change as well.
Why does the flange change at the same power?
A motor's frame number is its shaft height (H): 132 mm for 132M and 160 mm for 160M. In the standard range the stator and rotor stack of the 11 kW 4-pole motor is sized for the 160 frame. In the compact model the same electrical rating is fitted into a smaller frame, so flange, shaft and bearing take the values of the 132 frame. This is why the bearing is a 6208-ZZ-C3 instead of a 6309-C3.
In the end, choosing a flange is not a "power" decision but a "machine recess" decision. If the existing machine has a 160 flange recess, the standard model fits directly; if it has a 132 recess, the compact model does. The general size advantage of the compact frame and the jobs where it is preferred belong to the 15 HP articles; here we look only at the flange side.
Flange on the 2-pole and 6-pole 11 kW models
The 3000 rpm DRG-160M1-2 is also a 160M frame and carries exactly the same flange and shaft as the standard 4-pole model. The 1000 rpm DRG-160L-6 is a 160L frame; the 160L B5 flange is also P 350 / M 300 / N 250 mm with a 42 × 110 mm shaft. The difference is the axial length: L 608 mm on 160M, 652 mm on 160L.
So in the 11 kW class a 160 flange recess accepts all three speeds, provided there is room for the extra 44 mm. A matching flange does not mean a matching speed, though: torque is 35.7 Nm at 2945 rpm, 71.7 Nm at 1465 rpm and 108.3 Nm at 970 rpm. The motor must run at the speed the gearbox or pump was selected for.
Fitting the compact motor to a 160-flange machine: adapter check
If your machine has a 160 flange and you want to use the compact 132M, an intermediate flange (adapter plate) is needed. A simple check:
- The machine side of the adapter must carry the 160 flange dimensions: 250 mm spigot, 300 mm bolt circle, 18.5 mm holes.
- The motor side must accept the 132 flange: 230 mm spigot recess, 265 mm bolt circle, 14.5 mm holes.
- As the shaft stays at 38 mm, the motor-side coupling hub must be bored for 38 mm with a 10 mm key; the 42 mm hub on the machine side cannot be used.
- The compact motor's shaft is 80 mm long, the standard motor's 110 mm. If this 30 mm difference and the adapter thickness are not calculated together, the coupling halves either do not reach each other or get jammed.
This solution works, but every intermediate part adds misalignment risk. If the machine is still at the design stage, choosing one frame directly is cleaner. For the general list of shaft and key sizes by kW, see our motor shaft diameter by kW table.
11 kW at a gearbox input
Gearbox makers usually specify the input flange by IEC frame number (e.g. "IEC 160 B5"). In that case the compact 132M does not fit directly, and the standard 160M does not fit a gearbox with an "IEC 132 B5" input. The gearbox catalogue also states the largest motor frame allowed at the input; check which frame 11 kW is accepted with on that gearbox. For output speed and torque use the gearbox output speed and torque calculator.
Electrical data and starting
All four 11 kW models are wound for 400/690 V (Δ/Y) and run in delta on a 380 V network. Rated current at 400 V is 19.6 A for 2 poles, 20.4 A for 4 poles (compact included) and 22.0 A for 6 poles. Starting current ratios are 8.1, 7.7 and 7.2; for the 4-pole model 21.5 A × 7.7 ≈ 166 A, so direct-on-line starting at 380 V briefly draws well over a hundred amps from the network. Star-delta starting is common at this power; details are on our star-delta starting page. Panel wiring must be done by a qualified electrician.
Technical points that affect the price
The items that make a difference between 11 kW flanged motors are: standard (160) or compact (132) frame, aluminium or cast iron housing, number of poles, B5 or B35 mounting. The compact option comes only in aluminium; the 2-pole and 6-pole 11 kW models are offered in both aluminium and cast iron. You can check their current status among the 120 models in our shop.
Checklist for ordering an 11 kW flanged motor

Frequently Asked Questions
What frame size is an 11 kW motor?
In the standard range the 11 kW 2-pole and 4-pole motors are 160M frames and the 6-pole motor is a 160L frame. The compact DRG-132M-4K delivers 11 kW at 1500 rpm in a 132M frame.
What are the flange dimensions of an 11 kW motor?
On the 160 frame the B5 flange is P 350 mm, M 300 mm, N 250 mm with 18.5 mm holes. On the compact 132M frame it is P 300 mm, M 265 mm, N 230 mm with 14.5 mm holes.
What is the shaft diameter of a 15 HP motor?
The standard 160-frame 11 kW (15 HP) models have a 42 × 110 mm shaft; the compact 132M model has 38 × 80 mm.
Can a compact 11 kW motor replace a standard one?
The electrical data are the same, but flange and shaft differ, so it does not fit directly. An adapter flange and a suitable coupling hub can solve it; for a new design it is better to build the machine around the compact frame from the start.
