High efficiency counts for most where the power is largest: on the biggest frames a single point of loss is worth more electricity than a small motor draws in total.

DRG MOTOR | Sales of High Efficiency Electric Motors

Efficient motors are supplied here up to 355 kW. On a drive of that size the purchase price is a small share of what the motor costs over its life, because nearly all of the money goes into the electricity it pulls year after year. The efficiency class is therefore settled before the frame rather than after it, and the running hours of the plant settle it. Large motors also change what the plant has to prepare. The foundation, the cable, the starting arrangement and the lifting gear all have to be ready before the motor arrives, and a delivery date agreed without those in place simply moves the problem to site. Ask which classes exist for the rating you need and compare them on the energy figure, not on the invoice alone. Where two classes are both available, the difference is worth calculating against the hours the machine will actually run rather than against its nameplate rating. The numbers above answer rating, class and availability questions across the whole range up to 355 kW.
