Low-kW 1500 rpm electric motors are the most common motor type in small pumps, fans, conveyors and automation machines. The 1500 rpm speed is the natural result of a 4-pole design on a 50 Hz supply, and it offers a balanced point between torque and speed for many applications.
Why 4 Poles and 1500 rpm?
At 50 Hz the synchronous speed of a 4-pole motor is 1500 rpm; under load it drops slightly below this because of slip. It gives more torque than a 2-pole motor at 3000 rpm and more speed than a 6-pole motor at 1000 rpm. That balance makes 1500 rpm the standard for most general-purpose machines.
Efficiency and Size at Low kW
Efficiency class matters even at low power; a small motor running long hours makes a difference over a year when specified as IE3. At these ratings an aluminium frame is widely chosen for its light weight and easy mounting, though cast iron can be selected for harsh environments.
Mounting and Protection Options
Low-kW 1500 rpm motors are available as foot-mounted (B3), flange-mounted (B5) or face-mounted (B14), with IP55 protection and Class F insulation as the standard expectation. The right mounting type follows the machine's mechanical design.
Choosing the Right Motor
DRG Motor offers 1500 rpm 4-pole motors in the low-kW range with different frames and mounting types. Share your application's power and torque needs and we will identify the right model together.
