A 1.5 kW motor at 1500 rpm is the rating a workshop reaches for when the smaller frame runs hot at full load and the next size up would spend its life idling. Roughly 2 horsepower at a moderate speed covers pumps, air handling units, packaging machines, conveyors and mixers without straining the driven machine.

Speed matters here as much as the rating. At 1500 revolutions per minute the shaft turns at half the pace of a two-pole unit, so belt wear, bearing load and noise all drop. That is why food processing rooms, HVAC plant rooms, pharmaceutical areas and technical workspaces ask for this speed rather than a faster motor in a smaller frame.

The body follows the room, not the rating: die-cast aluminium for skid-mounted and portable equipment, cast iron where the frame has to absorb vibration from the machine it drives. IP55 is the standard sealing, while IP65 is ordered for washdown areas and heavy dust.

What sits inside the frame:

  • Copper windings, which set the loss and the running temperature

  • Class F insulation, leaving thermal margin at full load

  • A dynamically balanced rotor, so the 1500 rpm shaft runs without beat

  • Industrial bearings, sized for continuous rather than occasional service

The rating is quoted for S1 continuous duty, which is the honest way to read 1.5 kW: it is the power the motor holds all day, not a peak. IE2 is standard, and the IE3 variant is worth the difference where the machine runs long hours.

Mounting options:

  • B3, foot-mounted on a base plate

  • B5, flange-mounted onto a pump or gearbox

  • B14, face-mounted for compact assemblies

Shaft diameter and length, terminal box position and flange dimensions are fixed on the order. The motor accepts a variable frequency drive, so the 1500 rpm base speed can be trimmed to the machine instead of changing a pulley.

Ordered as extras:

  • PTC or PT100 sensors, when winding temperature has to be logged

  • Encoders, where the line controller needs shaft position

  • Electromagnetic brakes, for loads that must stop and be held

  • Automatic lubrication, on motors mounted out of reach

Bearing work can be done without disturbing the alignment, which keeps this size of drive out of the repair queue.
