Choosing the Right Power Step
Two mistakes cost money in opposite directions. A motor chosen well above the load runs at part load, where efficiency and power factor both fall; a motor chosen below the load heats up, and the winding pays for it long before the bearings do. The step that matches the load with a small reserve is the cheapest one over the life of the machine.
Where the 0.55–355 kW Band Is Used
The low end of the band feeds small pumps, mixers and fans; the middle sits under conveyors and compressors; the top steps go to crushers, large fans and pump stations. One plant usually orders from three different points of the same band, which is why the whole range is kept as one series.
Torque Comes from the Pole Count
At the same kW, a 6-pole motor delivers roughly three times the torque of a 2-pole one, because torque rises as speed falls. So the question is never only how many kW: a conveyor and a high-pressure pump may share a power step and still need different pole counts.
What Is Measured Before Shipment
Four measurements decide whether a motor leaves the line: insulation resistance, vibration and balance, efficiency with cosφ, and behaviour under load. The balance figure matters most in the 2-pole steps, where a small unbalance turns into visible vibration at 3000 rpm. A unit outside limits goes back, not out.
