The high-power AC IE3 electric motor is built to drive large compressors, main process pumps, crushers and production lines that run around the clock. At high ratings even a few points of efficiency translate into large annual energy figures, which is why IE3 Premium has become the de facto standard in this segment.

What IE3 Means at High Power

Per IEC 60034-30-1, the IE3 Premium class markedly reduces losses compared with an IE1 motor of the same rating. At outputs such as 90, 110, 160 or 200 kW the motor runs almost all year, so this gain becomes a saving that can exceed the motor's purchase price. At high kW, efficiency matters far more than the initial price.

Torque, Speed and Cooling

Heat management is critical at high power, so these motors are usually built with IC411 surface cooling and a ribbed cast iron frame. Use 2-pole 3000 rpm for high-flow pumps and fans, 4-pole 1500 rpm for general drives, and 6-pole 1000 rpm for high-torque crushing duties. Class F insulation and IP55 protection are standard.

Supply and Starting

On a 400 V / 50 Hz supply, star-delta or soft-starter starting limits the high inrush current and protects the network. In drive-fed (VFD) applications, speed control delivers additional energy savings at part load.

Selecting the Right High-Power Motor

DRG Motor supplies IE3 Premium AC asynchronous motors up to 355 kW, rated for S1 continuous duty. Send us your power, speed, mounting (B3 foot or B5 flange) and operating-environment data, and we will provide a current quotation for the motor that fits your line exactly.
