How Efficiency Is Measured

Motor efficiency is the ratio of mechanical output power to electrical input power. The IEC 60034-30-1 standard classifies this ratio from IE1 to IE5: IE1 Standard, IE2 High, IE3 Premium, IE4 Super Premium and IE5 Ultra Premium. The higher the class, the same work is done with less electricity.

The Source of Losses

Losses in an AC motor consist of copper losses in the windings, iron losses in the steel core, bearing friction and ventilation losses. Efficient motors reduce each of these losses through higher-grade materials and optimised design.

How Efficiency Reaches the Plant
