IE3 and IE4 electric motors are two classes that represent the highest levels in energy efficiency. Both run with low losses; the difference between them is the efficiency level and the size of the energy savings they provide.
The Difference Between IE3 and IE4
IE3 (Premium) is today's industrial standard. IE4 (Super Premium) runs with fewer losses, delivering higher savings especially in long-running applications. At the same power and speed, an IE4 motor draws less electricity than an IE3.
Savings and Payback
As the efficiency class rises the initial cost increases somewhat, but the lower energy bill in continuous service covers this difference over time. The effect of the higher class is greatest in 24/7 pumps, fans and compressors.
Selection by Application
IE4 suits heavily used systems, while IE3 is a balanced choice for less-used applications. Both classes suit continuous operation with IP55 protection and class F insulation.
DRG Motor for IE3-IE4
DRG Motor offers IE3 and IE4 motors from 0.55 to 355 kW and determines the efficiency class best suited to your application.
